You will explore Canadian tourism in-depth, focusing on the five tourism sectors. You will learn about quality customer service, career pathways related to tourism, tourism marketing, and meeting the needs of all clients. This course combines online theory with an in-person work placement where you will get hands-on learning opportunities to practice some of these concepts you've learned.
This course is only offered in Semester 2. Sask DLC coordinates the work placement at a local tourism business.
Building upon the foundational knowledge of Tourism 10, you will learn about the tourism industry, workplace safety and career opportunities in areas such as food and beverage, hotels, entertainment, transportation, and travel services. This course emphasizes delivering excellent customer service, accommodating diverse guest needs and developing marketing plans to attract tourists.
Tourism 20 consists of:
50 hours of online theory
50 hours of a practical, hands-on work placement that will allow students to apply the theory they've learned in a professional workplace
optional Tourism Saskatchewan Think Tourism event, which will count towards your work placement hours (typically one day in either Saskatoon or Regina). If students choose not to attend the event, all 50 hours can be completed at the work placement.
Work placements provide students with an opportunity to see if a trade might be right for them. This is only possible with the support of our partner Tourism Saskatchewan.
All students, parents and mentors are encouraged to familiarize themselves with our work placement information.
Sask DLC coordinates student work placements and we will do our best to find a local placement; however, we may not be able to accommodate placements in all situations, and/or some travel may be required.
Travel is at the student’s expense. If you have questions about work placements or Sask DLC courses, email helpdesk@saskDLC.ca or call our main office at 306-252-1000.
