Your Choice In Learning

Sask DLC understands that every student learns differently, which is why we offer two learning models for families to choose from:

• Synchronous Live Class: Students and teachers meet online in three scheduled live class sessions each school day.

• Asynchronous (flexible learning): Students and teachers engage with course materials at different times, offering the flexibility to meet your family’s needs.

Sask DLC teachers are available to provide support, feedback and offer live opportunities to connect with the student.

Whether choosing Synchronous Live Classes or Asynchronous learning, students will benefit from a safe, structured and flexible online education in a supportive environment - led by professionally certified Saskatchewan teachers.

Is there a cost?

There is no direct cost to families for students under the age of 22 taking online courses with Sask DLC.

School divisions in Saskatchewan are provided with provincial funding for students living in the area. Students and families have the option to study online and school divisions are invoiced directly. This ensures that provincial funding provided to the school division follows the student, wherever they choose to learn.

How Does it Work?

What is the time commitment?

Online learning offers structured flexibility, allowing your student to follow teacher-created timelines and submit assignments on schedule.

Synchronous Live Class students typically meet three times daily for an age-appropriate length of scheduled online instructional time.

Asynchronous students work on a more independently controlled schedule, with teachers making regular connections to ensure learning outcomes are being achieved.

Sask DLC follows the traditional 180-day school calendar from September to June.

Learning Mentors

As a parent, you play a vital role as a learning mentor at home. While each course is led by a teacher who provides regular online instruction and support, your guidance and encouragement are essential to your child's success.

You can support their learning by accessing their progress and grades at any time through our online portal, helping with goal setting and time management. Regular communication with teachers through Teams calls, email, and parent-teacher-student conferences ensures you stay informed and engaged.

Your hands-on support with schoolwork and projects makes a meaningful difference in their education.

How To Get Started as a Sask DLC Student

Gather documents

During the online registration process, you will need to provide a birth certificate for your student and three documents showing proof of Saskatchewan residency such as a Saskatchewan health card, driver's license or other documents with your name and address (i.e. utility bill).

Register

If you are registering more than one child, each child will need to be registered separately.

Registration confirmation

Registration typically takes between two to five days to process, depending on the time of year.

Once registration is processed, the student and parent/learning mentor will receive an email confirmation along with login details for DLCgo, our course platform.

Teacher contact

Your teacher will contact you on or just ahead of your course starting to introduce themselves, get to know you and answer any questions you have.

You can also schedule a meeting with your teacher throughout the school year, through your DLCgo dashboard.

What are the benefits of this model?

  • Great for students who thrive on structure, want to interact daily/frequently with their teacher and peers.

  • Great for students who prefer to set their own learning schedule during the day or follow the teacher directed pace and timeline.

What is the role of the teacher and student?

  • The teacher leads the students’ education online.  

  • Students will be online live with the teacher and class for three periods a day. 

  • Lessons are provided through scheduled live sessions and directed by the teacher.   

  • The teacher leads the learning and provides the resources needed, lessons, assessment, assignments and feedback. 

  • The students follow the online course content.  

    • Teachers will offer weekly live meetings to support learning.  

    • Students are expected to communicate with their teacher and submit their work (evidence of learning) regularly.  

    • Online lessons may be supplemented with printed resources.   

    • Teachers provide the assessments and feedback. 

What is the role of the learning mentor/ parent? 

  • The learning mentor monitors students throughout the day to ensure they are joining their daily class online meetings and are completing their work on time.  

  • They also provide additional help.  

  • The learning mentor determines the daily learning schedule, monitors progress, and ensures the work is completed and submitted on time.

Outside of scheduled live meetings, when can students access their teachers? 

  • Teachers may be booked to meet with students and/or learning mentors within their available schedule.

  • The class teacher will provide the missed work to the student.  

  • Teachers will regularly monitor student progress in their grade and will communicate with the student, learning mentor and/or parent if a concern arises.  

  • If needed, an action plan to support the student getting back on track will be created jointly with the teacher, student and learning mentor.
